After five-plus decades of determining NHL Awards by secret ballot, the Professional Hockey Writers Association voted by overwhelming mandate to enact full transparency in 2018.

Every ballot from every voter is now revealed after the winners are announced, including errors and omissions and voters who failed to return a ballot on-time.

“As hockey writers, we are tasked with holding teams, players and the league itself accountable, so it is only fair that the hockey world can hold us to the same account when it comes to determining the winners of these prestigious honors,” PHWA president Frank Seravalli said.

A searchable database with each member’s voting history will soon be available.
